"MARCHING
WITH ALEX LITHGOW"
Robert Fraser Minchin
[compilation 2006] Un-Numbered £13.00 (£11.06)
Alex Lithgow (1870-1929) - The Australasian Sousa. Born in Scotland
but brought up in the far south of New Zealand with a career in Tasmania.
Known for the march Invercargill - a piece rejected by his publisher.
He has suffered neglect perhaps because he wrote for brass band - the
only market in Australasia at that time. The first 8 pieces on this
disc, written in the last years of his life, have only recently been
published. All good strong stuff with a true marching beat.
